The new facility is now officially open

There was no mistaking the party atmosphere at the inauguration of the Stena Nordic Recycling Center, the Stena Metall Group's largest industrial investment, on October 26. The event was a great success, with around 450 guests getting to experience our state-of-the-art recycling facility, including the 95 percent recycling rate we achieve for end-of-life vehicles.

“It is wonderful to be opening this facility, which does so much to benefit the environment, resource efficiency and sustainability. We are delighted that you decided to make a major investment here. We will always need recycling and we will always need Stena,” said Lena Sommestad, Governor of the Halland Region, in her inauguration speech.

Stena's principal owner, Dan Sten Olsson, maintained a similar tone in his speech, explaining the facility's value for customers and society as a whole. He stressed the significance of achieving the 95 percent recycling rate for end-of-life vehicles, which is an EU requirement for car manufacturers.

“The Stena Nordic Recycling Center makes it easier for us to help our customers achieve their goals and be a quality-assured partner for them. We are now better at recycling a greater number of fractions and, therefore, can produce even more raw material resources.”

“We are moving closer to a circular economy, in which we must utilize and recycle more and more resources. We, in the recycling industry, play a major role in achieving this.”

Dan Sten Olsson also asserts that this is just the beginning. The 400,000 square meter site of the Stena Nordic Recycling Center has great potential for further investment.

“This is our largest investment to date, but it is only half of what this facility will become - there's more, he said, before he and Lena Sommestad cut the ribbon and declared the facility officially open.”

With exhibits, staffed by Stena experts, movies and virtual reality, the 450 guests saw how state-of-the-art recycling works. The program also included a tour of the advanced processing units, where more material than ever can be recycled in order to live again in new products.
